Free trading journal for TopstepX.
Elave is a free trading journal for TopstepX. TopstepX runs on ProjectX, and Elave connects with your TopstepX username and a ProjectX API key, so your futures trades sync from the cloud with nothing to install. API access may cost extra on ProjectX's side; Elave itself is free, with no card.

How TopstepX trades get into the journal.
ProjectX is the platform behind TopstepX, and its API lets an app read your accounts and trades with a username and an API key you create. Elave's form asks for exactly that: the firm (TopstepX), your username and your API key.
Elave checks the key, stores it encrypted and reads your trades from its servers. It never sends orders from its servers. Each closed trade arrives with its realized P&L and fees.
Check API access before you connect. Other journals describe ProjectX API access as a separate ProjectX subscription, so confirm what your account includes. If you'd rather not use the API, export your trades from the TopstepX Trades tab and import the file.

How to set up TopstepX sync.
- Get a ProjectX API key for your TopstepX login. Topstep's help centre explains TopstepX API access.
- Create your free Elave account and open Connect.
- Choose ProjectX, pick TopstepX as the firm, and enter your username and API key.
- Your TopstepX accounts appear in Accounts, and closed trades fill the trade log, calendar and analytics.
Without an API key.
- In TopstepX, open the Trades tab and export your trades.
- In Elave, open the journal's file import and drop the file.
- Check the column mapping the importer proposes, then import.
What lands in your journal.
- Trade log: every trade per account, filterable.
- P&L calendar: green and red days, with a day view for each one.
- Analytics: expectancy, profit factor, drawdown, average R, costs and streaks, split by session, weekday and hour.
- Strategy tags, so each setup gets its own numbers.
- Trade detail with notes, ratings and a review queue for the trades you haven't reviewed yet.
- An AI trade review that scores how impulsive each trade looked, from 0 to 100.
- Equity curves for several accounts side by side on the journal home, each account in its own currency.
What TopstepX sync does not do.
- Guardian, Elave's risk manager, does not run on TopstepX. On-chart rules and daily-limit enforcement are MetaTrader 5 only; TopstepX gets the journal.
- TopstepX is the only ProjectX firm listed in Elave's connect form today.
- The sync needs ProjectX API access, which may be a separate ProjectX subscription.
- Manual trade entry is not offered. Every trade comes from a sync or an imported file, so the journal matches a real record.
Frequently asked questions.
Is there a free trading journal for TopstepX?
Yes. Elave's trading journal is free for TopstepX, with no card, no subscription and no paid tiers on Elave's side. Your futures trades sync through ProjectX into a trade log, P&L calendar, analytics by session and setup, trade notes and an AI trade review. ProjectX API access itself may cost extra.
How does Elave sync TopstepX?
TopstepX runs on ProjectX, and Elave connects through the ProjectX API with your TopstepX username and an API key. Elave checks the key, stores it encrypted and reads your accounts and closed trades from its servers, with realized P&L and fees. There is nothing to install on your computer.
Do I need to pay for ProjectX API access?
Possibly. Other trading journals describe ProjectX API access as a separate ProjectX subscription, so check what your TopstepX account includes before you connect. Elave itself charges nothing. If you'd rather skip the API, export your trades from the TopstepX Trades tab and import the file into the journal.
Does Elave place trades on my TopstepX account?
No. The TopstepX sync reads your accounts and closed trades for the journal and never sends orders from Elave's servers. Guardian, the Elave tool that checks entries against your rules, runs on MetaTrader 5 only, so nothing on your TopstepX account is enforced or closed by Elave.
Does the TopstepX journal work on a Mac?
Yes. The TopstepX connection runs between Elave's servers and ProjectX, so it works the same from a Mac, a Windows PC or a phone browser. You enter your username and API key once, and the journal, P&L calendar and analytics then open in any browser. There is nothing to install.
Can I journal Tradovate or Rithmic accounts too?
Yes, through NinjaTrader 8 on Windows. Elave's NinjaTrader add-on syncs every account NinjaTrader is connected to, including Tradovate and Rithmic connections, into the same free journal as your TopstepX accounts. Without NinjaTrader, export your trades from Tradovate or Rithmic and import the file instead.
