Trade copier for prop firms: what is allowed
A trade copier mirrors orders from one leader account to one or more follower accounts, and whether you may use one depends entirely on each prop firm's automation and account-limit rules. Many futures firms allow copying between your own accounts at the same firm but prohibit copying across firms, between different traders, or with automated strategies.

Check these rules before copying
- Automation policy: allowed, allowed with conditions, manual-origin only, or prohibited.
- Maximum number of active accounts and whether that limit is per trader or per household.
- Cross-firm copying or hedging (opposite positions at another firm) — commonly prohibited.
- Platform: copying is usually done on the platform side (e.g. Tradovate, Rithmic or NinjaTrader-based tools for futures; MT4/MT5 copiers for CFD).
Risk with copiers
A copier multiplies both gains and losses: one bad trade breaches every follower account at once. Size each follower to its own drawdown, not the leader's.
Where Elave fits
Elave tracks each prop account against its firm's verified rules so you can see remaining drawdown per account. Elave is also building a copier inside its Prop Quant workspace; availability depends on your account — check in the app.
FAQ
- Can I copy trades between two prop firms?
- Usually not. Many firms prohibit cross-firm copying and cross-firm hedging; read each firm's terms before connecting a copier.
- Is a trade copier the same as an EA or bot?
- No. A copier mirrors trades you place; an EA or bot generates trades automatically. Firms often treat them differently.
